Henri & me with Anne Lamott

Anne writes and speaks about subjects that begin with capital letters: Alcoholism, Motherhood, Jesus. Armed with self-effacing humor, she is laugh-out-loud funny - and ruthlessly honest. In all of her books, Anne writes about loss - the loss of loved ones and the loss of personal control. She doesn't sugar-coat the fact that life can be hard, and sad, and disappointing. But then there's grace,

"The movement of grace is what changes us, heals us and our world," writes Anne. "To summon grace, say, 'Help!' And then buckle up."

In 1956, Rev. Roy E. Upton had a vision to bring the message of faith to as many people as possible. He met with his followers in a bowling alley on Kennedy Road in Scarborough (Scarboro Gospel Temple) and began drive-in Sunday services amplified to about 100 cars in a Dominion Store parking lot.

Today, his legacy is known as Global Kingdom Ministries. Situated on 11 acres at 1250 Markham Road (near Progress Ave.) in Scarborough, ON, the organization has 12 pastors on staff, and attracts nearly 1,900 attendees every week for Sunday services.

Festivities to celebrate Global Kingdom Ministries' 60th Anniversary will happen in the month of May, culminating in a Banquet on Saturday, May 28 at 6 p.m. at the Brighton Convention Centre. Early Bird tickets go on sale from March 25 to April 3, 2016 (
